Recreation Rules/Fees Subject of December 14 Public Hearing

On Thursday, December 14, the Nemaha NRD board of directors will hold a public hearing beginning at 6:00 p.m. to review changes to its recreation area rules and fees. The hearing will be at the NRD's office. Most of the changes to the rules center on the addition of the Duck Creek Recreation Area, which is slated to open sometime in 2018. However, other changes include limiting camping at Prairie Owl Recreation Area near Lorton to 7 days instead of the current 14-day limit. Also the vehicle entry permits required at Kirkman's Cove, Iron Horse Trail Lake, and Wirth Brothers Lake (and Duck Creek when opened) are proposed to increase beginning January 1, 2018. The annual permit would increase from $12 to $15 with a second permit going up from $6 to $8. Daily permits at the parks will now be $5 (previously these permits were referred to as temporary permits and cost $5 for a 2-day permit). No changes to the camping fees were proposed.
