Return to Board Meeting Updates

2007 Board Meeting Report Tecumseh – Robbie Bohling from Johnson is the newest member of the Nemaha Natural Resources District board of directors. At their meeting Thursday, February 8, the NRD board voted to appoint Bohling to the vacant seat previously held by Dave Neddenriep. Bohling will serve the remainder of Neddenriep’s term, which was set to expire in December, 2008. Four applications were received to fill the vacancy. In other action, the board approved the low bid of $12,782.58 submitted by Kuhl Trenching & Excavating, Inc., Tecumseh, for repair work on Brownell Watershed structure 1-4. The work will consist of replacing the principle spillway tube and riser on this site east of Syracuse. Five bids were submitted for the work to be completed this spring. The board also discussed three proposals from firms interested in providing consulting services to help with groundwater data collection and modeling for the District’s Groundwater Management Plan. At the recommendation of the staff, the board approved negotiating a contract for services with Olsson Associates, Lincoln. NRD’s Operations & Education Committee recommended renewing the lease with the Bunge Elevator at Brownville, which allows them access to the Steamboat Trace trail near their elevator. The board approved the annual lease renewal at the present rate of $566.50. Three initial applications for Urban Special Project funding were also reviewed by the Operations & Education Committee. Two were submitted by the City of Nebraska City and one by the Village of Burr. Nebraska City was requesting $25,000 for a trail project as well as $25,000 for a pond rehabilitation project, and Burr also requested $515 for a trail project. The committee determined that each project met the basic requirements of the program; therefore, final, detailed applications must now be prepared by the entities for submission to the NRD for consideration of funding at the May board meeting. The board approved a proposal to provide for additional easement acres involved with land owned by LaVerne Wolken at Middle Big Nemaha Watershed site 88 near Crab Orchard. Permanent pool acres on this property were underestimated in the original easement; therefore, when the structure filled, part of the crop was flooded. The proposal approved by the board included not only compensation for the additional easement acres but also for crop damages sustained. The settlement must now be forwarded to Mr. Wolken for his approval. Mark McDonald, Field Representative, and Aaron Stalder, Resources Specialist, updated the board on the NRD’s tree programs and wildlife programs, respectively. The board also discussed current legislation, well permit variance guideline survey results, funds received from the Attorney General’s office, and entering into a risk management pool for the medical insurance program, but took no action on these items. |
