| Nemaha NRD March
2009 Board Meeting Report Tecumseh – No one has come forward yet with interest in the vacant seat on the Nemaha Natural Resources District board of directors. Therefore, the board was unable to appoint anyone to the position during their regular meeting Thursday, March 12. The vacancy in Subdistrict 4 lies entirely within the boundaries of Nebraska City though not everyone in the city is included in this subdistrict. Generally the east side of the city is included, but interested candidates should contact the NRD in Tecumseh for specific boundaries. Letters of interest in the open spot will be accepted anytime and considered at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the board. Action was taken by the board to approve a bid for construction of a dam east of Lewiston for Dennis Schuster. Gyhra Construction, Pawnee City, submitted the low bid of $68,635 for the structure, which is slated for construction this spring. Funding for the project will come from a combination of federal monies, NRD small dams funding, and landowner contributions. Two bids were reviewed for harvesting hay at Iron Horse Trail Lake near DuBois. The board approved the high bid of $450 submitted by Ed Findlay of Table Rock. Four applications for well permits were put before the board for approval. All four were in Richardson County, one north of Humboldt and three south of Rulo. Chuck Wingert, NRD Water Resources Manager, provided information to the board regarding the wells; and the board approved all four permits. At the recommendation of the executive committee, the board voted to purchase a new Lanier copier from Modern Methods, Lincoln, at a cost of $9,747. Three proposals were reviewed, and this machine will replace an aging machine, which will be traded in. An agreement with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for the restoration of Iron Horse reservoir was reviewed but not acted upon. Some changes were made following receipt of the agreement from the Commission, and the District is now awaiting their reply. A request for assistance with a drainage channel near Talmage and a county road issue associated with a recently constructed cost-share dam in Johnson County were reviewed in committee. However, no action was requested on either item; and more information will be collected on the Talmage drainage issue. The board went into executive session to discuss land rights associated with the Buck Creek Watershed project near Peru. However, no action was offered by the board after returning to regular session. Several other items on the agenda were discussed in committees, but no recommendations were brought to the board. The next meeting of the Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009, beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the NRD headquarters in Tecumseh. Committees will meet prior to the regular meeting. |
