Outdoor recreation is one of the twelve
statutory responsibilities assigned to NRDs. The Nemaha NRD operates and
maintains four public lakes/recreation areas and the 21-mile Steamboat
Trace trail. In addition, the over 350 watershed dams and hundreds of
acres of trees and wildlife habitat developed or improved on private
land with NRD assistance offer landowners additional outdoor recreation
options.
Nemaha NRD park entry
permits (not to be confused with Nebraska Game & Parks Commission
park permits) are required at some of the public recreation areas.
Voluntary donations are accepted at collection boxes along the Steamboat
Trace to help offset maintenance costs. Currently only about 3% of the
NRD’s budget is targeted at recreation.
