The Steamboat Trace has been designated by the National Park Service as
part of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. Description: 21 miles of abandoned railroad corridor paralleling the Missouri River from approximately 6 miles south of Nebraska City to just south of Brownville, Nebraska. In 1995, the title was provided to the Nemaha NRD by the National Rails to Trails Conservancy. Click here for map of trail.
Recreation Rules & Regulations At Brownville: from Highway 136, turn south just west of the Missouri River bridge and proceed to Brownville State Recreation Area on the Missouri River. At Peru: enter Peru from Highway 67 and proceed north through town on Park Avenue and 5th street. The trailhead and parking area is located at the far north end of 5th street. There are trailblazer signs that will guide you. At Nebraska City: from Highway 75 south of Nebraska City, turn at the entrance to the OPPD Nebraska City Power Station. (OPPD road is one mile south of Nebraska City on Highway 75). Just before reaching the plant (at the switchyard), turn south (right) to the Arbor Station Trailhead. Parking and additional information is located there.
