Recreation & Park Permit Status

All Nemaha NRD parks are open, and all services including camping are available. This includes Kirkman's Cove, Iron Horse Trail Lake, Duck Creek Recreation Area, Wirth Brothers Lake, and Prairie Owl. Currently the areas will remain open; you are asked to practice good social distancing while at the parks until further notice. Check out our Recreation page for the latest updates and response to the current pandemic.

Where is your park permit? That question is coming up a lot, and all we can say is, please be patient. We are absolutely overwhelmed with applications for permits, and we are waiting for another shipment of the annual stickers. Normally we are able to get them out within 14 days, but this year is an exception. If you ordered yours through a blue envelope at one of the parks and still have your tab from the top of the envelope, keep using that until you receive your sticker. Keep in mind, too, that if you left any information off the envelope (complete mailing address, vehicle information including license plate number) or if it is not legible, those permits cannot be mailed until we find out that information. Unfortunately, those are at the end of the list for processing. Feel free to contact our office if you think that might be the case.

The Steamboat Trace trail, however, is still closed in its entirety until further notice. It is not expected that the trail will be reopened this year. Major flooding from last spring caused extensive damage to sections of the trail, and it is unknown at this time when those portions may be repaired.
