NNRD Board Meeting & Public Hearing

NNRD Board Meeting & Public Hearing

August 14, 2025 - 4:00pm

Pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 46-743, the Nemaha Natural Resources District (NNRD) hereby provides notice that the NNRD shall hold a public hearing as required by Neb. Rev. Stat. § 46-707(2) on Thursday, August 14th, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the NNRD Office, located at 62161 US Highway 136, Tecumseh, NE 68450. The purpose of the hearing is to accept public testimony on the current and proposed temporary 180-day stay on the construction of new high-capacity wells and the increase of irrigated acres within the entire geographic area of the NNRD. The NNRD is proposing to extend the stay up to an additional 180 days initially enacted at its regular scheduled board meeting on March 13th, 2025, under the authority of Neb. Rev. Stat. § 46-707(2). The purpose of the temporary 180-day stay was imposed due to continued drought conditions, observed groundwater level declines, changes needed to the well permit ranking methodology scoring and the need to update the current 2020 District’s Groundwater Quantity Management Plan Rules & Regulations. Extending the stay will also give the NNRD Board of Directors and staff additional time to evaluate management options and review potential rules and regulations revisions.
Any interested person may appear at the public hearing and present written or oral testimony concerning extending the moratorium. Written testimony may also be submitted in advance and up through to the time of the hearing to the Nemaha NRD office or by electronic mail at nnrd@nemahanrd.org. Contact the NNRD office by phone at (402) 335-3325 with any questions.

The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors will hold their regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the NRD headquarters in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Committee meetings, if necessary, begin at 6:00 p.m.  An agenda is being kept current at the office, 62161 Hwy 136, Tecumseh, NE  68450.
