Water Analysis

Water Analysis

The Nemaha NRD offers water analysis services to help private well owners monitor and maintain the quality of their drinking water. Regular testing can identify potential water quality concerns and help ensure a safe and reliable water supply.

Why Test Your Well?

Regular water testing is an important part of maintaining a safe and reliable private water supply. Unlike public water systems, private domestic wells are not regulated or routinely monitored, making well owners responsible for maintaining and testing their own water quality. The Nemaha NRD recommends annual testing to help identify potential water quality concerns before they become a health risk.

Free testing is available for:

  • Nitrate: Elevated nitrate levels can pose health risks, particularly for infants and pregnant women. The drinking water standard for nitrate is 10 mg/L (ppm).
  • Bacteria: Testing is the only way to determine if bacteria are present in a drinking water supply. Bacterial contamination can pose health risks and may cause illnesses, including gastrointestinal illness.

Additional water quality tests are available for a fee, depending on the type of analysis requested. These samples are sent to Ward Laboratories for analysis. For a complete list of available water tests and pricing, visit Ward Laboratories’ Water Analysis page.
